IEC 60076 Market
Power Infrastructure
in Tanzania.
Tanzania's vertically-integrated TANESCO oversees generation, transmission and distribution. ETS manufactures IEC pole-mounted and distribution units for Dar es Salaam grid densification and the Standard Gauge Railway traction-power programme.
Market context
Grid topology, regulation & demand drivers.
Tanzania's electricity sector is dominated by the vertically-integrated Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO), which owns generation, transmission and distribution under regulation by EWURA. Voltage levels are 11/33 kV at MV and 132/220/400 kV at transmission, with the new 400 kV Singida–Arusha–Namanga interconnection extending Kenya–Tanzania regional integration under the Eastern Africa Power Pool. TANESCO specifications follow IEC 60076 with tropicalised design (40°C ambient, 90% humidity) and hermetic sealing standard for pole-mounted distribution units serving the Rural Energy Agency (REA) electrification programme. The 2,115 MW Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project on the Rufiji River — Africa's largest hydropower scheme under construction — drives unprecedented demand for step-up transformers, GSU units and HV switchgear. The Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) traction-power programme linking Dar es Salaam–Morogoro–Dodoma–Mwanza requires 25 kV AC autotransformers and substation feeders. Industrial demand centres on Dar es Salaam Free Zone, Kigamboni new city development and the Mtwara Development Corridor's gas-to-power plants. ETS manufactures TANESCO-approved units from Jebel Ali via Dar es Salaam port.

Frequently Asked Questions — Tanzania
Lead times for projects in Tanzania depend on the specification, scope of supply, order volume and prevailing factory load. Distribution transformers (11–33 kV, up to 5 MVA) typically build and test faster than power transformers (33–132 kV, up to 60 MVA), and EHV units above 132 kV require the longest manufacturing and testing windows. Every quoted programme includes witnessed Factory Acceptance Testing at our Jebel Ali high-voltage lab and agreed delivery terms. Please contact ETS with your technical schedule for a project-specific delivery plan.
