Iraq's electricity sector is undergoing one of the largest grid-rebuild programmes globally, with the Federal Ministry of Electricity (MoE) overseeing transmission and 17 distribution directorates across the federal government, plus the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) operating an autonomous network in the north. Voltage levels are 11/33 kV at MV and 132/400 kV at transmission, with an ongoing 400 kV reinforcement programme to interconnect with Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Kuwait and the GCC Interconnection Authority. MoE specifications follow IEC 60076 with 55°C ambient tropicalised design due to extreme summer temperatures (Basra peaks 53°C+) and seismic considerations in the north. Industrial demand is dominated by the southern oil corridor — Basra (Rumaila, West Qurna, Majnoon supergiant fields) — requiring oil-and-gas-rated transformers, plus refinery upgrades at Daura, Baiji and Karbala. Erbil, Sulaymaniyah and Duhok in the KRG are growing commercial markets. ETS manufactures MoE and KRG Ministry of Electricity-approved distribution and power transformers from Jebel Ali, with overland delivery via Kuwait or sea-freight to Umm Qasr port. C5-M corrosion protection and dust-ingress hardened cooling are standard for southern Iraq applications.
