IEC 60076 Market
Power Infrastructure
in Ghana.
Ghana's transmission is operated by GRIDCo with ECG (south) and NEDCo (north) handling distribution. ETS manufactures tropicalised distribution units for utility expansion across Accra and the Ashanti industrial belt.
Market context
Grid topology, regulation & demand drivers.
Ghana's grid is operated by Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) for transmission, with Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) covering southern distribution and Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) handling the north. The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) sets tariffs and the Energy Commission governs technical specifications. Voltage levels are 11/33 kV at MV and 161/225/330 kV at transmission, with active reinforcement to support the West African Power Pool (WAPP) interconnection. ECG specifications follow IEC 60076 with copper windings, tropicalised insulation and hermetic sealing standard for both pole-mounted and ground-mounted distribution units. Industrial demand centers on the Tema Free Zone Enclave (heavy industry, refineries), Ashanti gold mining region, the Western corridor's bauxite and oil-and-gas plays, and the rapidly growing Greater Accra commercial sector. The 250 MW Bui hydropower-solar hybrid and the Pwalugu multipurpose project drive renewable step-up transformer demand. ETS manufactures ECG-approved distribution and pole-mounted units from Jebel Ali with sea-freight to Tema, with C4 corrosion protection standard for coastal substations.

Frequently Asked Questions — Ghana
Lead times for projects in Ghana depend on the specification, scope of supply, order volume and prevailing factory load. Distribution transformers (11–33 kV, up to 5 MVA) typically build and test faster than power transformers (33–132 kV, up to 60 MVA), and EHV units above 132 kV require the longest manufacturing and testing windows. Every quoted programme includes witnessed Factory Acceptance Testing at our Jebel Ali high-voltage lab and agreed delivery terms. Please contact ETS with your technical schedule for a project-specific delivery plan.
