    ATEX Certification

European directive for equipment used in potentially explosive atmospheres. Required for oil & gas, chemical, and gas processing installations.

ATEX (Atmosphères Explosibles) covers two directives: 2014/34/EU (equipment) and 1999/92/EC (workplace). Zone classification: Zone 0/20 = continuous explosive atmosphere; Zone 1/21 = likely during normal operation; Zone 2/22 = unlikely, only abnormal conditions. Transformers in Zone 1 require: ATEX-certified accessories (cable boxes, pressure relief), hermetic sealing, explosion-proof junction boxes, and specific marking (Ex d, Ex e, or Ex n). IECEx is the international equivalent accepted in most non-EU markets.
