Voltage Regulation — Transformer Glossary
The percentage change in secondary voltage from no-load to full-load, expressed as a percentage of the rated secondary voltage.
Voltage Regulation
The percentage change in secondary voltage from no-load to full-load, expressed as a percentage of the rated secondary voltage.
Good voltage regulation means the output voltage stays close to rated value under varying load. Typical regulation for distribution transformers is 3–5%. Lower impedance improves regulation but increases fault current levels. OLTC tap changers provide dynamic voltage regulation under varying load and supply conditions.
