    Market context

Grid topology, regulation & demand drivers.

Bahrain's Electricity & Water Authority (EWA) operates a fully interconnected, compact grid serving the highest population density in the GCC. The network runs 11/33 kV at distribution and 66/220/400 kV at transmission, with extensive underground cabling in central Manama. EWA specifications mandate IEC 60076 with 50°C tropicalised design, copper windings, conservator preservation and C4–C5-M corrosion protection due to combined humidity, salt-laden coastal air and proximity to refining/petrochemical plants. Industrial demand is dominated by Aluminium Bahrain (ALBA) — the largest aluminium smelter in the world ex-China — which operates dedicated 220 kV substations and rectifier transformers, plus Bapco Modernisation Programme upgrading the Sitra refinery to 380 kbpd. Commercial growth is centred on Bahrain Bay, Diyar Al Muharraq and Bahrain International Investment Park, all requiring fast-track package-substation deliveries. ETS manufactures EWA-approved distribution transformers, low-loss EcoDesign-equivalent units and switchgear from Jebel Ali with multimodal sea-freight to Khalifa Bin Salman Port and road freight via the King Fahd Causeway.

    FAQ

    Frequently Asked Questions — Bahrain

Lead times for projects in Bahrain depend on the specification, scope of supply, order volume and prevailing factory load. Distribution transformers (11–33 kV, up to 5 MVA) typically build and test faster than power transformers (33–132 kV, up to 60 MVA), and EHV units above 132 kV require the longest manufacturing and testing windows. Every quoted programme includes witnessed Factory Acceptance Testing at our Jebel Ali high-voltage lab and agreed delivery terms, across the 2 cities we serve in Bahrain. Please contact ETS with your technical schedule for a project-specific delivery plan.
